Use the Reports menu to select, generate and open reports of model output by species, indicator, and for certain diagnostics (e.g., flows, water temperature).
All of these options can also be accessed using buttons on the EFT Reader toolbar (Select Reports, Create Reports, Finished Reports).
The options under the Reports menu are:
The EFT can generate reports by species (e.g., Fall Chinook), by indicator (e.g., Fall Chinook WUA Spawning), and for selected diagnostics (e.g., water temperature). Species and Indicator reports can be based on Annual or multi-year Roll-up views. Diagnostic reports are all annual. Both non-spatial and spatial reports can be generated. However, not every type of report can be generated for every species/indicator. Consult the Select Reports form to see which report types are available for each species, indicator, and diagnostic.
Non-spatial Reports
Non-spatial reports can be created from both Annual and multi-year Roll-up views. These reports are generated in MS Excel. At a minimum, non-spatial EFT reports contain 3 worksheets of information:
Graphs
Metadata
Data
Graphical representation of the run results for the scenario, year and species/performance measure selected for reporting; shows the distribution of good, fair and poor performance for the year(s) plotted.
Details about the model run that forms the basis for the report that has been generated, including scenario information and assumptions.
Tabular representation of the run results for the scenario, year and species/performance measure selected for reporting; shows the distribution of good, fair and poor performance for the year(s) plotted.
Additional tabular data are included on separate worksheets, as appropriate and relevant, for certain indicators, e.g., flow and entrainment data for Smelt entrainment risk. Non-spatial reports are saved by the EFT at a location specified by the user on the Reports tab in Preferences (Edit menu).
Spatial Reports (DeltaEFT only)
Spatial reports can be generated for the Delta EFT eco-region from both Annual and multi-year Roll-up views. For annual spatial reports, the data are shown as colored points (as in the example below), lines, or polygons - depending on the indicator being mapped - for the selected year. For multi-year roll-up spatial reports, data for the full range of years you selected in Show Criteria are represented in pie charts that show the proportion of good, fair, and poor performance years. In all spatial reports, performance is represented by colour, based on the scheme defined on the Viewers tab in Preferences (Edit menu). The colored dot in the upper left corner of each report represents the overall performance rating for the indicator for the year (annual report) or years (roll-up report) specified.
For spatial reports that display point or pie chart data, the size of the point or pie chart indicates the weight (based on sample size) of the data at that location.
You can configure your spatial reports, e.g., change the base map, using the options available on the Spatial Reports tab in Preferences (Edit menu).
The menus and options on the spatial report window are:
Window menu
Select
Arranges multiple spatial reports in the reporting window. The options are: Cascade (as in the image above), Tile Vertically, and Tile Horizontally. You can also use the re-sizing icons in the upper right corner of each report to enlarge/restore individual reports within the report window.
This option is on by default when a spatial report opens. Select allows you to click on a data point, line, polygon, or pie chart to open a pop-up window of additional information. Click anywhere else on the map to close the pop-up.
Pop-up Details
Click on a data point, line, polygon, or pie chart to view details about the data for that location. From the drop-down list at the top of the pop-up, select the kind of detail you want to view. All pop-ups contain a location name, and show the values used to create the data on the map (PM Summary). For some indicators, additional information is also available, e.g., charts showing changes in various parameters over time such as salinity, temperature, weight gain in fish, passage time, thermal stress, etc.
Pan
Zoom In
Zoom Out
Use this tool to move the map around within the report window, e.g., you may need to move a data point downward in order to see the associated pop-up window in its entirety.
To zoom in on a specific area of the map, click on the Zoom In tool and then left-click to draw a box around the area you want to enlarge. You can also zoom in with small increments by rolling the wheel forward on your mouse. Re-position the map as needed using the Pan tool.
To zoom out, click on the Zoom Out tool and then left-click on the map. Alternatively, you can zoom out by rolling the wheel on your mouse backwards. Re-position the map as needed using the Pan tool.
Spatial reports cannot be saved.
Diagnostic Reports
The EFT can generate four different non-spatial diagnostic reports, and one spatial time series animation report. Diagnostic reports are annual, i.e., one report for each year selected in an Annual view, and include reports for flow, water temperature, wetland inundation regime, and salinity. Non-spatial salinity results are expressed as X2, where X2 is defined as the location, in number of kilometers from the Golden Gate Bridge, at which bottom salinity measures 2 ppt. Non-spatial diagnostic reports are generated in MS Excel, and are saved by the EFT at a location specified by the user on the Reports tab in Preferences (Edit menu).
The spatial diagnostic report is a time series animation of the X2 data. Click on the Play button () in the lower right corner to start the animation.
The data point for X2 will move up and down the river as the days of the water year (shown in the lower left corner of the report) advance. You can adjust the speed of the animation using the Animation Speed sliding scale on the Spatial Reports tab in Preferences (Edit menu).
You can Pause the animation () at any time, and "rewind" by moving the marker on the progress bar.
As with the annual and multi-year roll-up spatial reports, you can arrange multiple reports in the report window (Window menu), and you can adjust your view with the Pan and Zoom tools.
The spatial diagnostic report cannot be saved.
Click on the Select option under the Reports menu to open a form that lists the types reports that can be generated based on model output stored in the EFT database. The same form can be opened by clicking on the Select Reports button in the toolbar at the top of the screen. This form can be sized by left-clicking and dragging any corner or side of the form.
The Select Reports form lists all of the report types that are available for each species and indicator, and it lists the diagnostic reports that can be run. The reports are organized on three tabs: By Species, By Indicator and Diagnostic reports. Selecting reports to generate is a two-step process. The recommended practice is to select the types of reports you wish to generate here, and then select specific reports (e.g., certain years in an annual view) on the Annual and/or Roll-Up views. It is possible, however, to select specific reports from the Annual and Roll-Up views without first selecting report types from the Select Reports form (see below).
To specify the types of reports to generate:
To select specific Annual reports to generate:
To select specific Roll-Up reports to generate:
You can also select reports directly from an Annual or Roll-up view, without first specifying which reports you wish to generate on the Select Reports form.
To select reports directly from an Annual view:
To select reports directly from a Roll-up view:
Click on the Create option under the Reports menu, or on the Create Reports toolbar button, to generate reports of model output based on your selections.
Note: You must select at least one Annual or Roll-Up report before clicking on Create Reports.
To create reports:
A report generation status bar will display in the bottom left corner of your screen; you can continue working with the EFT Reader while reports are being generated.
When the report generation process is completed, a separate instance of Excel will open for each non-spatial report, and spatial reports will open in a separate window on your screen.
Choose Finished Reports from the Reports menu, or click on the toolbar button of the same name, to see where the EFT Reader stores finished non-spatial reports on your computer. A list of the reports you have generated will display in the Reports form, including information about file size and date modified. You can open or delete any of these files, and perform other standard operations with them, e.g., convert to PDF, or zip and email to a colleague.
